The Shift

We often expect God to speak in clear, audible ways, through a voice, a dream, or a sign we cannot ignore. But sometimes God speaks more quietly than that. Not through sound, but through the unfolding of events, through shifts, and through what is happening around us in ways we may not immediately recognise as Him speaking. As Scripture says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1). This means there’s God’s footprints in everything that surrounds us ,even those things that are not tangible and if this is the case what can stop Him from using all His creation to communicate with us??

Recently, I found myself in a space that felt comfortable. Everything was flowing, everything felt settled, and I had no desire to move or shift. Then an opportunity came, one that suggested a shift. But I questioned it, “what is wrong with where I am?” So I let it pass. Not long after, something began to shake the very place I had grown comfortable in. What once felt stable suddenly felt unstable, and I found myself in a quiet panic, trying to hold on to what I knew. In that moment, a thought came, gentle but clear, “remember the opportunity you turned down?” It was not loud and it was not dramatic, but it was enough. I realised then that God had already been speaking, not through a voice, but through timing, through opportunity, and through the unfolding of events. What I had resisted earlier was not random, it was direction, and I thank God that the door of that opportunity had not fully closed.

Sometimes what feels like disruption is actually redirection. When we do not recognise the cues for a shift, God may allow a shaking, not to harm us, but to redirect us. The space I was in had become comfortable, but comfortable with limitations, and I was okay with it. It was a place that served me, but did not stretch me. Everything about it had become a rhythm, something familiar, something I understood from beginning to end. But the opportunity I had turned down, though unfamiliar, was a space of growth, responsibility, and impact, not just for myself, but for others as well. That is often how God moves us, from comfort into calling, and from what is familiar into what requires faith.

Even when things feel uncertain and the ground shifts beneath us, God is intentional. He does not allow anything bad to have the final say over our lives. Everything is worked together for our good. As Scripture says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). So as long as you are for God, as long as He is at the centre of your life and your decisions, rest assured that even if you are shaken, God will have the final say, and He will work it out for your good.

Doors do not stay open forever. There are seasons, there are timings, and there is a rhythm we are meant to flow in. We pray for alignment, that God will help us recognise the cues when it is time to move. Even in seasons where He is not speaking through dreams or prophecy, may we have the discernment to see the signs and recognise when He is leading us into something new. I am grateful that before the door closed, I was able to recognise the shift, even though I had to be shaken to understand it. In all this, I see that God is intentional, not just about me, but about each of us. He does not let a season pass without giving direction.
May we not miss what God is doing because we are too comfortable to move, too unsure to respond, or not attentive enough to recognise His leading.
